Our destinations
-
Miombo Woodlands
A broad belt of Brachystegia (miombo) woodland stretches across Zimbabwe’s central plateau. This open woodland habitat is rich in biodiversity and home to sought-after species like the Miombo Rock-Thrush, Southern Hyliota, Whyte’s Barbet and the elusive African Spotted Creeper.
-
Eastern Highlands
A 260km long mountain chain running north-south along the Mozambican border. These montane forest and grasslands, mountain peaks, gorges and waterfalls are home to the Chirinda Apalis, Gorgeous Bushrike, Green Twinspot and Palm-Nut Vultures.
-
Zambezi Valley
Discover a remote, pristine section of the Zambezi Valley surrounding Mhara River Camp. Mopane woodland and riverine thickets here offer a haven for African Pitta, Pel’s Fishing Owl, Narina Trogon and Collared Palm-Thrush — with big game often nearby.
Discover the elusive African Pitta
The African Pitta migrates to Zimbabwe to breed during the rainy season, arriving in late October to early December and departing in February, with some remaining until April.
Mhara River Camp presents the ideal location to see this elusive lifer.

“We spent 4 nights at Mhara, absolutely stunning, great location, fantastic food and game drives and brilliant staff. Can't say enough - highly recommended. We were a group of birders who saw Pitta at every attempt. Our guides Jim Mackie and Craig were knowledgeable, kind and really took good care of us. Will definitely be back”
